From the beginning design of the Orion Stylus, five grooves were added to the stylus hull to add a bit of style and aesthetic appeal. Simply put, the five grooves add style to the hull that otherwise would be missing without them.
I spoke to Larin Dodgen, who leads the engineering team at Sunstone Welders. "The grooves are about style and nothing more," he says. "The first CAD drawings I saw seemed off. The hull looked empty and several different ideas were presented to fill that space. I believe it was our mechanical engineer that suggested we add the grooves. And that was the right answer. The grooves really do complete the stylus."
The grooves are an Orion hallmark. You won't find them on the basic stylus that ships with the beginners Zapp™ permanent jewelry welder™. Welders that are equipped with an Orion stylus are the Zapp Plus™ permanent jewelry welder™, Orion mPulse™ permanent jewelry welder™, Orion PJ™ permanent jewelry welder™, Orion 100c, Orion 150s, and Orion 200i.
